Embroidered Cashmere Pashmina 'Kashmir Bride Ambika'

Embroidered Cashmere Pashmina 'Kashmir Bride Ambika'

The Bridal Series has been created to emulate the classic designs and aesthetics of traditional bridal shawls. The shawl is beautifully soft and dyed a deep, vibrant red. Reds are notoriously difficult to represent on a screen. These photographs have been colour-matched on a high-resolution, calibrated screen. But, to help, this is red that is more in the burgundy side - more blue undertones, not orange or yellow undertones.

Made from hand-loomed, hand-woven cashmere from Ladakh.

The raw cashmere was collected in May 2023 from a herd owned by Mr Tsering Angchuk from Datt Village. Temperatures here can reach minus 35 degrees during winter in this cold desert region of the Himalayas. The cashmere is washed, carded, and de-haired. De-hairing is the process of removing the guard hair (thick hair) from the pashmina fibres so that only the finest hairs remain. The cashmere from this region is considered amongst the best in the world; it is combed from the chest and underbelly of the goats and is light and warm with amazing insulating properties. The fibres are extremely fine, varying between 9 and 16 microns.
The baby soft pashmina is then spun by hand, converting the soft fibre into an ultrafine yarn that even modern technology would struggle to achieve. Hand spinning is a traditional craft in Kashmir. Spun by Aatiya Noor, it will have taken one month to spin just 100 g of Pashmina yarn, and then woven by Mr Abid Khan, who, with his brother, owns five pit looms. The average time required to hand-weave the base fabric for a shawl is 3-4 days; the exquisite fabric of this shawl will have taken about a month to weave.

The incredible embroidery on this shawl was carried out by a 49-year-old craftsman named Mohamed Mannan. It is a unique work of artand considred a

Finally, the shawl was washed, finished and prepared for dispatch at the finishing plant in Hawal by Mr Zakir Wani

Each pashmina is handled with great care and crafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques and hand processes.

Each shawl comes with a copy of The Kashmir Shawl, a book which explores the landscape and lives behind the production of these shawls.

Origin & Sustainability

This shawl embodies the principles of slow fashion — each stage, from sourcing to spinning, weaving and embroidery, is done by hand and can take months to complete. Every artisan involved brings years of skill, care and cultural heritage to the process.

Made from Grade A Ladakhi pashmina, this shawl uses one of the world’s finest natural fibres. Cashmere is not only supremely soft and warm, but it is also renewable, biodegradable, and long-lasting — a conscious choice for those who value quality over quantity.
