Natural Torddu Sheepskin

Natural Torddu Sheepskin

These luxurious Welsh Torddu sheepskin rugs have a long bright white fleece, strikingly outlined with contrasting natural black and dark brown edges. Each rug is unique in size, pattern, fleece length and colour. The roots of the fleece are black, so there is a lovely dark undertone when you run your hand over the fleece. Wider than many sheepskins, they are trimmed economically to preserve the beautiful contrast along the edges. These are a fabulous find, and we think you will love them just as much as we do.

The Torddu is one of two breeds of Badger Face Welsh mountain sheep and is believed to be one of the oldest breeds of British sheep, dating back around 2,000 years to the first century. They are extremely hardy, living high in the otherwise unfarmable Welsh hills and are known for their resilience and strong mothering instincts. They are generally white with a black underbelly and have a black-and-white striped face.

Origin & Sustainability

These sheepskins are produced in Devon by Britain’s oldest established sheepskin tannery, which has been working in Buckfastleigh on the edge of Dartmoor for over 200 years. These unusual sheepskins are sourced from the Torddu sheep, an ancient breed that is native to the Welsh hills. They are then tanned and finished in the UK.

Natural sheepskin is a renewable and biodegradable material, and by choosing one you are supporting long-standing British craftsmanship and sustainable rural livelihoods. Our gorgeous rugs are made to withstand the test of time and trends, ensuring that they remain a staple décor piece for years to come.
