Eco Tanned Jacob Seconds
These 'seconds' from our iconic Jacob sheepskins are just as striking as our standard size Jacob rugs. Each rug features the trademark piebald brown and white markings unique to the rare Jacob breed.
Our Jacob seconds may have minor imperfections, but they retain all the character, quality and warmth of our standard-grade hides. The seconds Jacob rugs tend to be more robust in feel and are usually extra large in size. The smaller rugs tend to have a softer and shorter fleece.
These sheepskins are eco-tanned using a chrome-free, bleach-free process that minimises environmental impact and preserves the fleece’s lanolin, making them naturally dirt and bacteria resistant.
Jacobs are a rare breed, and these hides are not always available year-round. That scarcity, along with their distinctive appearance and generous size, makes them a rare find and a lasting investment for your home.
- Size: Approx. 96-120 × 50-75 cm
- Composition: 100% Natural Sheepskin, eco-tanned (chrome-free)
- Origin: Extra-large Jacobs tend to be from Europe, and the smaller ones from the UK
Product Care
To clean, take it outside and give it a good shake, then gently brush using our bamboo sheepskin brush. We recommend spot cleaning only, ensuring that the leather back does not get wet. Do not machine wash.
For heavy soiling or stains, we recommend consulting a specialist cleaner.
For more guidance, see our Product Care page.
Origin & Sustainability
Our 'seconds' rugs are pieces that don't quite meet our standard specifications for colour or sizing but are every bit as special. By choosing a seconds rug, you’re helping to make use of beautiful natural materials that would otherwise be discarded.
These sheepskins are sourced from farms that do not practise mulesing (a method known to cause discomfort to sheep) and are tanned using an eco tanning method which reduces environmental harm by avoiding chromium-based products. Supporting local tanneries, this process preserves the natural qualities of the fleece while maintaining a low carbon footprint and reducing environmental impact.
Offcuts are repurposed wherever possible to minimise waste. Some are used by toy makers to craft soft, natural toys, supporting circular production practices.
